Scouting Report

Scouting Comments:

"Smallish winger is not the biggest, fastest, or most skilled prospect, but is a very honest player who hustles his ass off and will never cheat you on effort. Shows a keen awareness all over the ice - knows linemates' position on ice without having to look. Has instant chemistry with any linemates. Makes effective moves in tight on the rush. Fast crossovers generate speed out of his cuts - gains separation easily. Pulls off the offensive zone cycle into the high slot to create opportunities. Despite his size, shows a willingness to drive into coverage. Hard to strip the puck off him - uses his body to protect it well. Effective on the PP and understands passing angles. Creatively switches hands on stick to protect the puck with driving wide. Strong backchecker comes down deep to get into passing lanes. Terrific work ethic in all three zones." - Red Line Report

Falcons Announce Roster Moves

The Springfield Falcons today confirmed two of the roster moves reported by ECHL.com yesterday. The Falcons announced the recalls of defenseman Mike Egener and left wing Adam Henrich as well as the reassignment of winger Randy Rowe to Johnstown of the ECHL. The Falcons have also released defenseman John Adams from his PTO contract. There is no news as of now about any moves pertaining to defenseman Gerard Dicaire's recall.

Egener, Dicaire, Henrich Recalled By Springfield

Mired in a month long winless streak the Springfield Falcons finally opted to make wholesale changes today recalling a trio of Lightning prospects from Johnstown of the ECHL. According to ECHL.com, the Falcons have recalled defensemen Mike Egener and Gerard Dicaire as well as left wing Adam Henrich. No word as yet on any roster moves in Springfield which might involve Randy Rowe and John Adams amongst others.

2006 CHL Top Prospects Game Set For Wednesday

The 2006 draft class is widely considered to be a dud in waiting, but the best of the CHL's prospects will convene for the annual CHL Top Prospects Game Wednesday in Ottawa at 7pm. The game will be preceeded by the all important skills competition at 7pm on Tuesday. The skills competition, since 2000, has often yielded clues to the Lightning's draft selections and the team has actively sought out players who are in the upper crust of prospects with skating ability. Past participants in the CHL Top Prospects game who had good skills testing results and were drafted by the Lightning include Nikita Alexeev (Erie, OHL), Adam Henrich (Brampton, OHL), Mike Egener (Calgary, WHL), Paul Ranger (Oshawa, OHL) and Andy Rogers (Calgary, WHL). Game Night 1/14: Storm at Chiefs

Jonathan Boutin has only had a couple of bad starts all season... er, make that three. TOL-7 JHN-3 Boutin and the Chiefs suffered a terrible third period in which they allowed 4 goals as the Toledo Storm walked to victory. Boutin made just 29 saves on 35 shots in the loss. Among Lightning prospects, Adam Henrich assisted on a Brady Greco power play goal in the second period which, at the time, allowed the Chiefs to narrow their deficit to 3-2 just before the 2nd intermission. But three unanswered goals in third period sealed it for the Storm. Johnstown now drops back to a game under .500. Game sheet from ECHL.com.

Game Night 1/14: Falcons at Crunch

The Falcons' winless streak is now at 13 games. SPR-3 SYR-5 Brian Eklund stopped just 25 of 29 shots before Syracuse added an empty net goal at game's end. Once again, Springfield's goaltending allowed 4 or more goals despite the defense allowing under 30 shots against. Defensemen Ray Schultz and Timo Helbling both scored their first goals in a Falcons uniform. Schultz also tacked on an assist in his second game with the Falcons. Nick Tarnasky also potted a goal for Springfield. Game sheet from TheAHL.com.

But Notches 3 Assists in Yaroslavl Win

Lightning overage prospect winger Anton But posted three assists today to help the Lokomotiv roll over SKA St. Peterburg 8-3. Yaroslavl is third on the Superleague table just one point back of Omsk in the standings. But is currently 4th in the Superleague in scoring with 14 goals and 35 points in 38 games. He is also tied for 5th in the league in goals and is 4th in the league in assists. Alexander Polushin was again a scratch for Severstal Cherepovets. Bolt Prospects is currently looking into the 2001 second round pick's status.

Holmqvist Reemerges in Offensive Slug Fest Versus Frolunda

Andreas Holmqvist had 2 assists today and Linkopings defeated Vastra Frolunda 5-4. Fredrik Norrena stopped 27 of 31 shots faced to improve his record to 17-8-5 this season. Frolunda is currently 2nd on the Elitserien table and saw their lead over third place Linkopings shrink to three points after the loss. Through 33 games, defenseman Andreas Holmqvist has 4 goals, 13 points and 46 penalty minutes. His +7 rating is the third best among Linkopings' blueliners.

HPK Spanks Jokerit

HPK made sure their young netminder Karri Ramo's return to the lineup after being gone for a month for the Rosno Cup break and World Junior Championships would be an easy one today. His club scored 6 goals in the second period en route to destroying Jokerit 10-2. Ramo stopped 31 of 33 shots faced for the victory. His record improves to 5-3-3 on the season. Ramo currently ranks 4th in the SM-liiga with a 1.79 GAA and a .938 save percentage.

Former Falcons Coach Potvin Dead at 38

Former Springfield Falcons head coach Marc Potvin was found dead tonight in Kalamazoo, MI just hours before his Adirondack Frostbite were to take the ice for a UHL game. Potvin coached two seasons in Springfield including the '01-'02 season which was the first of a joint affiliation the Falcons had with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Among the players Potvin coached were current Lightning players Dimitry Afanasenkov and Martin Cibak as well as current Falcons players Jason Jaspers and Harlan Pratt. While head coach of the Frostbite, Potvin also coached Chiefs center Justin Kelly. Bolt Prospects send condolences to Potvin's family.

Game Night 1/13: Royals at Chiefs

Another tough result against Reading... REA-4 JHN-3 The Chiefs coughed up a lead in the third period and once again were defeated by Reading despite the fact they once again outshot the Royals by a wide margin (41-26 tonight). Morgan Cey took the loss stopping just 22 of 26 shots faced. Gerard Dicaire continued to heat up offensively with 1G 2A in the contest.
