Prep Hockey Update: Killorn Off to Torrid Start
The Lightning has two prospects currently playing U.S. High School Hockey this fall.
Center Alexander Killorn, a 2007 third rounder, plays for Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts. Also, forward Matt Marshall, a 2007 fifth rounder, plays for the Noble and Greenough School, also in Massachusetts. Both prospects recently began their respective prep seasons.
Deerfield is 1-0 after beating the Holderness School 6-0 on December 1.
Killorn had 4 goals and an assist in the game.
According to the Deerfield review of the game, Killorn scored less than 2 minutes into Deerfield's season when he intercepted a Holderness pass at center ice, sprinted into the zone, beat two defenders and then beat the Holderness goaltender high blocker side. He would score 7 minutes later to make the score 2-0. Killorn, who is a co-captain and Harvard commit, added an assist early in the second period before adding two more goals in the period for a 6-0 lead. There was no scoring in the third period.
Killorn's fast start comes after a strong showing for his midget U18 club, the Neponset Valley River Rats in Foxboro. Killorn was called "dominant" by one of his coaches, Kevin Quick, Sr., father of Lightning prospect Kevin Quick. The elder Quick said Killorn is "outstanding as a person and player" and "plays both ends of the ice." Coach Quick also said Killorn is "coachable ... and he can skate, he can snipe, he is physical, he is smart, and he is a leader."
"I am very confident that Alex will play in the NHL," Coach Quick said. He also mentioned his son, current Michigan Wolverine Kevin Quick, who played against Killorn last year in prep hockey, said Killorn was the best player he faced last season.
Marshall, a University of Vermont commit, and his Nobles teammates are 1-1 after a 4-2 win over Pomfret and a 5-2 loss to Belmont Hill. The Nobles web site does not detail game results and finding additional resources for stats is proving difficult thus far.
Regular updates for Killorn and Marshall will be available on Bolt Prospects as the season progresses.
