Lightning Trade Lampman for Scalzo Jr.

There has been a trade...

The Lightning have dealt overage prospect Bryce Lampman to the Dallas Stars in exchange for prospect defenseman Mario Scalzo Jr. Scalzo, 23, has 1 goal and 9 points in 15 games so far this season for Iowa of the AHL. The 5'10" 190 lbs defenseman is most well known for his brief stint in 2004-2005 with Rimouski of the QMJHL where, after being acquired at the trade deadline in his overage season, he scored 13 goals and 44 points in 23 regular season games helping the Oceanic and Sidney Crosby reach the Memorial Cup final. Scalzo Jr's best professional season came as a rookie in 2005-2006 when he posted 4 goals and 33 points in 74 games.

The trade of Lampman resolves the Admirals' issue of having one more veteran than they were allowed to dress under AHL rules.

We Needed This

Well, we got Darche and MacDonald last week and Darche promptly is named the AHL player of the week. He had a hand in every goal scored on the recent road trip.

And now, the Bolts have swung a trade sending Lampman to Dallas for Scalzo. From what I have read, he lit it up in the juniors, had a great first year as a pro and has 9 points so far this year (8 of tham assists) and a +1. He has the reputation of being a good PP quarterback and an excellent passer, especially out of the zone to start the rush.

Those were two skill areas we seem to be lacking in right now. Not the biggest player out there for us, but we still have plenty of beef in the dman corps to compensate.

It is also good to see the Bolts are not content to simply stand pat with what they have in Norfolk. I don't expect there be major trades by the Bolts, but it is heartening to see that they will make minor trades to try and bolster the ADs in areas they need help in. It is a good indicator that they want to be successful at the minor league level.

I hope this trade pans out for us. The indicators are good, let's see how this translates to on ice performance.

Just a Great Trade All Around

Scalzo's not just a fit in terms of need for Norfolk short term, but he's probably a top-15 prospect in this organization right out of the chute.
