Lines for Saturday's Game

The showdown for the #6 and #7 defenseman jobs for the Tampa Bay Lightning looks like it will begin in earnest on Saturday night against the Caps.

According to Carter Gaddis on Erik Erlendsson's blog, the night will mark this year's preseason debut for the pairing of Brad Lukowich and Matt Smaby as well as for the pairing of Dan Jancevski and Doug Janik. From the outside looking in, it appears Smaby, Jancevski, and Janik are all vying for one the two open vacancies. One will be left out, but whom?

Saturday's lines and pairings:

Prospal/Lecavalier/St. Louis
Hlavac/Karlsson/Ward
Darche/Craig/Wanvig
Roy/MacDonald/Tarnasky

Ranger/Boyle
Smaby/Lukowich
Jancevski/Janik

Holmqvist
Ramo

Johan Holmqvist is scheduled to play the entire game for the Lightning. Head Coach John Tortorella wants to trim the roster down to 26 after the game, meaning there will be 7 cuts coming which jibes with the 6-7 cuts Claude Loiselle is reportedly expecting to arrive in Norfolk next week.

Editorializing

Just to pre-emptively throw in my 2 cents:

If they send Ramo down after Saturday without giving him a preseason start just to take the easy way out and avoid a potential goaltending controversy, then the Lightning brass are chickenspits.

Not saying I've heard any rumors or anything to that effect, but lets lay that on the table right now just in case.
