Tampabaylightning.com is reporting that the Lightning have cut nine more players from their roster. All nine have been assigned to Springfield of the AHL whose training camp begins tomorrow. The nine players are: C/LW Ryan Craig C/W Andre Deveaux G Brian Eklund LW Mitch Fritz C Jason Jaspers RW Marek Kvapil D Doug O'Brien D Todd Rohloff C Nick Tarnasky D Gerard Dicaire is expected to be reassigned to Springfield once he is medically cleared after suffering from a medical condition which causes the body to fail to regulate blood pressure. The cuts leave three young Lightning players still in training camp: RW Evgeny Artyukhin, D Timo Helbling and D Andy Rogers. Rogers would need to be signed by the Lightning if he is to be retained for the NHL regular season. The Lightning had claimed going into training camp they would only carry 20 players this season due to salary cap constraints. In Saturday's Tampa Tribune article by Erik Erlendsson, John Tortorella openly mused about keeping seven defensemen which would push the roster size to 21. With Artyukhin also sticking around, the Lightning are now at 22 players.
