C John Toffey

Most notable on the list are Somervuori, Cey and Henrich. Somervuori, who was selected in the 7th round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, was one of the last vestiges of Phil Esposito and Don Murdoch's reigns in the Lightning organization. The talented speedster came to North America 2003-2004 and was touted by THN as a top Calder Trophy candidate but was unable to make the Lightning out of camp. After one season in the AHL he returned to Europe.

Cey, now 25, was signed as a free agent out of Notre Dame University and has spent the past two seasons primarily with Johnstown of the ECHL. Cey's departure leaves the Lightning with just three prospect netminders under contract, one of whom is Karri Ramo who is expected to challenge for an NHL job out of camp. If the Lightning are to stock their new Mississippi ECHL affiliate with two goaltenders, the subtraction of Cey may predicate another move by the organization.

Selected in the 2nd round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Adam Henrich is the highest drafted prospect to be cut loose by the Lightning this summer and easily its biggest disappointment. Henrich leaves the organization having scored just 13 goals and 25 points in 102 AHL games over the past three seasons.

Altogether, the Lightning cleared 8 50-man roster spots previously held by prospects today.
