Bolts Re-sign Tarnasky, Wanvig
The Tampa Tribune is reporting the Lightning has re-signed forward pending restricted free agent Nick Tarnasky and pending unrestricted free agent Kyle Wanvig.
The Tribune reports the deal for "Tar-nasty" is 3 years. Wanvig, who was a second round pick of the Minnesota Wild in 2001 and was MVP of the 2001 Memorial Cup for Red Deer (WHL), signed a one-year, two-way deal.
''Nick Tarnasky has all the makings of a true dominant power forward in the NHL,'' Lightning general manager Jay Feaster said. ''He has size, strength, solid skating ability, willingness to commit himself to the defensive side of the game and an under-developed ability to finish that even he is just starting to harness and explore.
''We believe that as he continues to become more comfortable and confident in his role he will continue to be a solid checker as well as a consistent goal scorer who stands up for himself and his teammates. We are very pleased to have him under contract for the next three seasons and we look forward to bigger and better things from him beginning this season.''
Wanvig, acquired Feb. 1 in a trade with Atlanta, appeared in four games with the Lightning. He also skated in 23 games with Springfield of the AHL, recording 11 goals and seven assists.
''Kyle Wanvig is a pure goal scorer, as he consistently has demonstrated at the AHL level and, as we believe, he has the ability to demonstrate at the NHL level,'' Feaster said. ''It is difficult for a player to break in with our club when he hasn't had a training camp with us, and clearly that impacted Kyle following the trade last season. With the chance to get to know our organization and our system, as well as the opportunity to get himself in the best physical shape of his career this summer, we expect Kyle to come to camp looking to earn a spot on our roster.''

Three years... Nice
I really just expected a qualifying offer for another year with the mandatory 10% raise.
When Feaster signs a guy like Tarnasky to a multi-year deal, you know the organization really likes him.
Wonder if Holly over at HF saw this signing?
Official term?
I believe the official term over there for a prospect who was drafted in the seventh round or later is "trash."
great news!
now if they play with any regularity with other mobile players, we may see something!
2/5 Vets
Assuming Karl Stewart lands with Norfolk along with Wanvig, that's 2 of 5 veteran spots filled. Looking at our roster, I think I'd probably find two more forwards and a veteran d-man to run the power play.
Here's my guess at the lineup (assuming they carry 12 forwards on the roster, 7 d-men and 2 goalies):
FA*/FA*/Wanvig
Keller/Jones/Kvapil
Spina/Stewart*/Lascek
Smolenak or Lawrence/ Elliot
Egener/FA*
Rogers/Mihalik
Lundin/Crowley
Rosehill or Atherton
Boutin
Munce
*=veteran
The wild cards are obviously Koshechkin and the Kazionov brothers.
