Bolt Prospects Prospect of the Week: 4/2-4/8

With all due respect once again to Ryan Munce, who single handedly willed Johnstown into the playoffs this week with a 49 save performance in the season finale at Reading...

The Lightning organization's quietest success story of the season scores his third Bolt Prospects award of the season.

G Jonathan Boutin, Springfield (AHL)

I don't think there's ever been a prospect in Lightning history whose development has flown under the radar quite as much as Jonathan Boutin's this season. Ask the Lightning brass to list the organization's top goaltending prospects and Boutin won't even rank in the top three behind Riku Helenius, Karri Ramo and Vasily Koshechkin. And yet, Boutin's excellence has been hard to escape this season. Boutin has now won Bolt Prospects Prospect of the Week twice this season and won Bolt Prospects Prospect of the Month and AHL Goaltender of the Month honors for his play in the month of December. This week, Boutin sparkled behind a Falcons squad which is playing out the string with multiple amateur tryouts getting their first taste of pro hockey. He went 2-0 with a 2.40 GAA and a .936 save percentage. On Wednesday 4/4, Boutin made 27 saves as the Falcons knocked off Albany 3-2. Boutin was named second star of the game. Later in the week, Boutin made 46 saves in regulation and overtime before stopping 3 of 6 shooters in a 4-3 victory on the road against the Hartford Wolf Pack. Boutin was named third star of the game for his efforts. Hartford, it should be noted, is slotted into second place in the Atlantic Division while Albany is in a tight struggle with Bridgeport for the final playoff spot in the AHL's East Division. Boutin is 9-15-1 this season with a 3.16 GAA and .900 save percentage to go with 1 shutout; numbers which are comparable to Karri Ramo's 15-24-1 record with a 3.13 GAA and .906 save percentage with 1 shutout. Rumors place Ramo in Tampa next season and Koshechkin possibly on his way to North America. Even if Koshechkin does come to Norfolk, don't be surprised if it's Boutin who seizes the Admirals starting job.
