Cibak to Sweden

Former Lightning center Martin Cibak has signed with Vastra Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League. Cibak, who was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Lightning this summer, had two goals and six assists in 65 games for Tampa Bay this past season. He had one assist in six games for Tampa in their Stanley Cup run of 2004. Cibak essentially lost his job with the Lightning when management decided they wanted more physical play and offense from the fourth line next season.

Cibak's future

I gotta admit, I thought Cibak was a fence-rider there for a year or two after his rookie professional year for an awful Detroit Vipers team. I believe by the end of the year he was centering a scoring line in Detroit and was starting to show some offensive upside. At least as a playmaker. Perhaps he's a victim of the past, poor development system. If they started him in the ECHL and slowly moved him up, he may have had a higher ceiling than a responsible fourth line, no-frills player.
