Feaster Awards Spots to Prospects
Submitted by Ken on July 30, 2006 - 18:53
Feaster beat me. I layed out all my overall evaluations from camp today and decided to blog my thoughts on the unsigned prospects first and to do it tonight figuring that Jay would announce those soon. Sooner than I thought. From the Tampa Tribune: "PROSPECT CAMP: Feaster called this week's prospect conditioning camp a worthy investment of time and money. If there were a camp MVP, Feaster said Kevin Quick, the team's fourth-round pick in the 2006 draft, would earn the title. The GM said Quick was unbelievable in the five scrimmage games and is speaking to the defenseman and his parents about playing junior level hockey next year instead of returning to prep school on Connecticut in order to "accelerate" his progress. In addition, a dozen invitees earned another look either at the team's rookie camp in Traverse City, Mich., in September or training camp for Springfield. The 12 players: to Traverse City - defender Clayton Barthel, and forwards David Desharnais, Brian Woolger, Torrie Wheat, Todd Griffith and Travis Fuller; to Springfield camp - forwards Kevin Croxton, Mike Ouellette, Kelly Czuy, defensemen Don Grover and Jon D'Aversa, and goaltender Josh Disher." Now I don't have to go into any detail. I had the forwards (14 of them, Boisclair & Gibbons already signed to Springy) ranked in groupings versus straight order, except the top three were my personal order. I thought my 1st 3 deserved TC invites. The next 4 may merit invites based on organizational preferences. The next 5 would probably play minor pro somewhere. The last 2 may struggle to find professional employment. 1. Woolger TC 2. Wheat TC 3. Desharnais TC 4 - 7 merited TC consideration Oullette TC Griffith TC Bubnick no love Fuller TC 8 - 12 Johnstown possibles Croxton Spr Czuy Spr (agitator) Robinson Baker Borrelli 13 - 14 UHL & lower Imbeault Ray When I preview the defnseman you'll see I had D'Aversa & Barthell reversed. I had D'Aversa looking at TC & Barthell looking at Johnstown. Both are 20, Barthell showed more offense which is probably why. Grover I though had a chance also. With Pearce still in school, it's not surprising Disher is going to Springy. I did not feel he would get a TC invite though.
