Lightning Re-Sign Afanasenkov

The Lightning have re-signed winger Dimitry Afanasenkov to a one-year deal worth about $738,000. The one-year deal is Afanasenkov's qualifying offer. The Lightning will likely start with Afansenkov on a scoring line this season after the departure of Fredrik Modin in the Marc Denis trade.

Nils Ekman

With players like Bernier and Michalek coming through the rankings in San Jose along with Cheechoo and Bell expected to round out their scoring lines, what do you think of the idea of re-aquiring Nils Ekman (maybe sending Afanasenkov and a really late pick the other way)? I'm aware Ron Wilson plays a more balanced system, but the Sharks organization is getting a little deep... no pun intended. He's a proven 20-goal scorer who is a natural RW, meaning Fedotenko can move up to the Richards line and Ekman can play with Prospal and Lecavalier.

Re: Ekman

I'd love to get him back here, but he's only making $1.1M so I doubt the Sharks are in any hurry to move an affordable 20 goal 55 point a year guy. Maybe next year he'd be a potential replacement option for Fedotenko.

Nice

It'll be interesting to see what he can do with a real shot on the scoring line. I've always thought this guy is just missing that one little thing. He has the speed and the hands, just seems to lack the ability to finish. Hoprefully this can boost his confidence a bit.
