Norfolk punishes Binghamton for having the audacity to come into town.

Dustin Tokarski allowed 3 goals on 17 shots for the victory. Life is good when the snowman works for you.

    First Period
    BNG O'Brien, (17) (Wick, Locke), 4:20
BNG Bass, (3) (Hoffman, Kinrade), 7:26
NOR Harju, (21) (Fornataro, Vernace), 14:08 (PP)
NOR Szczechura, (15) (Harju, Milam), 16:08

    Second Period
NOR Barberio, (9) (Giliati, Berry), 10:42
    NOR Pouliot, (20) (Wright), 16:53

    Third Period
    NOR Szczechura, (16) (Harju), 0:44

BNG Daugavins, (16) (Kinrade, Wiercioch), 8:33 (PP)
NOR Wright, (13) (Berry, Milam), 15:53 (PP)
NOR Wright, (14) (Pouliot, Fornataro), 19:22

James Wright, Paul Szczechura, and Johan Harju were the game's three stars. For Wright, it was his first hat trick as a professional while Paul Szczechura became the 7th Admiral to break through the 15 goal mark this season. For his part, Marc-Antoine Pouliot became the 3rd Admiral to break 20 goals this year. Point being: Norfolk is scary deep and balanced at forward.

Norfolk extends to a 6 point lead on 5th place Binghamton in the East Division and burns another game in hand on Charlotte by pulling within 1 point of the idle 3rd place Checkers with 1 more game in hand. Norfolk also kept pace with 2nd place Hershey and are 8 points back of the Bears with 2 games in hand. In the crossover, Norfolk maintained a 7 point edge on the Atlantic's 4th place team, Worcester.

Playoffs are looking very good with 15 games left to go and the Admirals probably needing about 9-10 more points to get a playoff spot. Norfolk goes to Hershey on Sunday to try to make some headway against the 2nd place Bears.

BCHL Interior Conference Semifinals – Game 2

Salmon Arm Silverbacks 3 @ Penticton Vees 2
Silverbacks lead Best of 7 series 2-0

    C Brendan O’Donnell, PEN: 1-1-2, 0 PIM
    Season totals: 58 GP, 29-43-72, 28 PIM
    Playoff totals: 3 GP, 1-3-4, 5 PIM

O’Donnell had a goal and an assist, but the story of the game and the series thus far was undrafted goaltender Kris Moore of Salmon Arm. For the second straight game the Vees outshot the Silverbacks by nearly a 2-to-1 margin, but Moore, who lists former Lightning goaltender Corey Schwab as his greatest hockey influence in his player profile, made 40 saves and stole Game 2 for the underdogs. The series now heads the Silverbacks’ barn with the Vees in a big hole.

Sioux Falls Stampede 7 @ Fargo Force 2
    C Jimmy Mullin, FGO: 1-0-1, -2, 0 PIM, 8 SOG
    Season totals: 42 GP, 19-29-48, +23, 24 PIM

Mullin broke a two game scoreless streak, but the Force was hammered at home in an important game, 7-2 by Sioux Falls. The teams entered the game tied for third in the Western Conference at 60 points with Sioux Falls holding a game in hand. Fargo now sits alone in fourth, one point behind Omaha.

    Tri-City Americans 1 @ Kelowna Rockets 3
RW Carter Ashton, TC: 1-0-1, E, 4 PIM (high sticking, hooking)
    With Tri-City: 27 GP, 13-25-38, +8, 47 PIM
    With Regina: 29 GP, 16-11-27, -12, 44 PIM
    Season Totals: 56 GP, 29-36-65, -4, 91 PIM

Ashton’s streak of four games with at least two points came to an end, but he did manage his 29th goal of the season to put him within one of his career high of 30 – again. He thought he had his 29th goal two games ago, but a late scoring change took it away. Ashton’s goal Wednesday tied the game at one in Kelowna, but that’s all TC could manage. Rockets captain Tyson Barrie, son of former Lightning owner Len Barrie and once thought to be a certain draft target of the Barrie/Koules Bolts, had an assist in the game for Kelowna. The Avalanche draft pick has 54 points (10 goals) in 49 games this year.

Saskatoon Blades 5 @ Brandon Wheat Kings 3
    D Teigan Zahn, SAS: 0-1-1, +3, 2 PIM (holding)
    Season totals: 67 GP, 3-19-22, +33, 133 PIM

Zahn has quietly established a career high for points in a season at 22. His plus-33 rating is “just” 28 better than his previous career high in that category. The overager and captain of the WHL’s top team is hoping for a contract at the end of the season from the Lightning. He has five points in his last three games and is plus-11 in those three games.

    By any means necessary.

    TB-4 (SO)

Dwayne Roloson allowed 3 goals on 31 shots and then stopped all 3 shooters he faced for the shootout victory. No save was bigger than Roloson's stop on Bryan Bickell on the overtime breakaway.

    First Period
    11:07 TB Stamkos (42), St Louis (53), Clark (16)
    16:43 CHI Kane (23), Toews (39), Sharp (29)
    19:44 TB St Louis (25), Stamkos (39), Hall (8)

    Second Period
    01:20 TB Purcell (16), Hedman (21), Gagne (12)
    09:39 CHI Sharp (34), Toews (40), Kane (37)

    Third Period
    03:30 CHI Toews (28), Hjalmarsson (6), Seabrook (34)

    TB- St. Louis

Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis were the game's first and third stars. St. Louis scored the winner on his first shootout conversion in ages on a spino-rama chased with a double clutch backhander off the crossbar and in. Skills to pay bills.

The importance of the win cannot be underestimated. The Lightning maintained pace 2 points back of the Capitals and hold a game in hand in Washington, and the schedule starts to open up a little for the Lightning after tonight. There are 15 games remaining in the season, and as of tonight only 4 of those games are against playoff-bound teams, although Carolina (3 games) and Minnesota are currently in 9th in their respective conferences at 2 points or less out of 8th. Still, you get the point. If the Lightning can't close this out in the last 15 games, they have nobody to blame but themselves.

Blair Jones played 9:38 in the game tonight.

    Mission statement.

Dustin Tokarski allowed just 1 goal on 22 shots for the victory. Tokarski is 7-2-2 since the start of February.

    First Period
NOR Angelidis, (17) (Vernace, Berry), 11:51
NOR Nelson, (7) (Angelidis, Roy), 19:59

    Second Period
NOR Harju, (20) (Szczechura, Mihalik), 15:39
    NOR Barberio, (8) (Labrie), 17:59

    Third Period
BNG Wick, (14) (Hoffman, Lehner), 2:12
NOR Pouliot, (19) (Fornataro, Harju), 13:10 (PP)

Mike Angelidis, Johan Harju, and Levi Nelson were the game's three stars. Harju became the second Admiral to hit the 20 goal mark this season. Blair Jones was the first, and Marc-Antoine Pouliot may be the next after scoring his 19th tonight.

It's hard to under-emphasize the importance of tonight's win for the Admirals. The club regained its 4 point gap on Binghamton for 4th place in the East Division and cashed in a game in hand to move within 3 points of Charlotte for 3rd with 2 games in hand still remaining. Just as well, Hershey lost 3-2 to Worcester tonight, so Norfolk moved within 6 points of 2nd place with 3 games in hand on the Bears and they maintained a 5 point gap on the Sharks and Connecticut Whale in the worst-case scenario where a crossover into the Atlantic Division bracket becomes necessary. A loss tonight would have been a disaster for the Admirals, but now Binghamton is the club sweating as they hold a playoff spot by a slim, single point.

There are 16 games remaining in the regular season. Norfolk faces these same Senators on Friday at Scope.

BCHL Interior Conference Semifinals – Game 1

Salmon Arm Silverbacks 3 @ Penticton Vees 1
Silverbacks lead Best of 7 series 1-0

    C Brendan O’Donnell, PEN: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM
    Season totals: 58 GP, 29-43-72, 28 PIM
    Playoff totals: 2 GP, 0-2-2, 5 PIM

O’Donnell returned after missing games 2-4 of the Vees’ first round series with Quesnel, but Penticton was shocked at home in Game 1 vs. Salmon Arm, 3-1. Penticton outshot the Silverbacks 41-22, but was stymied by goaltender Kris Moore (undrafted). Game 2 is tonight (Wednesday) in Penticton.

    Tri-City Americans 5 @ Kamloops Blazers 4
RW Carter Ashton, TC: 0-2-2, +3, 0 PIM
    With Tri-City: 26 GP, 12-25-37, +8, 43 PIM
    With Regina: 29 GP, 16-11-27, -12, 44 PIM
    Season Totals: 55 GP, 28-36-64, -4, 87 PIM

Ashton had two assists in the first period to help TC to an early 2-0 lead, but the Ams had to fight back with three third period goals, including one in the last minute, to win the game. Ashton has a four game multipoint streak going in which he’s scored 10 total points. He has 13 points in his last seven games. He was originally listed with two goals and an assist in his last game against Vancouver, but that has been changed to one goal and three assists. Ashton’s career high for goals in a season in 30.

Red Deer Rebels 7 @ Prince George Cougars 0
RW Brett Connolly, PG: 0-0-0, -4, 0 PIM
    Season totals: 54 GP, 40-23-63, -7, 26 PIM

Ouch. While Red Deer is second overall in the league, losing on home ice 7-0 is embarrassing any way you cut it. The Cougars, who were once comfortably in the playoff picture, are now tied for the eighth and final spot in the West at 62 points. They do have a game in hand on Kamloops, with whom they are tied, but Seattle is at 59 points and has a game in hand on Prince George. The Cougars are 1-8-0-1 in their last 10 games and need to turn things around. As captain of his home town team, there’s no doubt Connolly doesn’t want to go out like this. Likely 2011 top-3 pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a goal and three assists Tuesday for Red Deer.
