Russia won the annual Karjala Tournament today on goal differential beating the Czech Republic 4-1 in their tournament finale. Lightning prospect forward Anton But did not appear in the tournament for Russia after making the initial roster for the team. Blueliner Andreas Holmqvist finished tied with center Rickard Wallin for Team Sweden's lead in points with 1 goal and 3 points in 3 games. Sweden finished second in the tournament, losing the tiebreaker to the Russians on goal differential.

Controversial question of the day: given how much David Schneider has struggled early in the season for Norfolk, do you think the Lightning regret not making more of a pitch for Holmqvist who, although he has his shortcomings, is recognized as one of the better power play quarterbacks in the Elitserien today?

    Everett Silvertips 1 @ Lethbridge Hurricanes 4
    D Dane Crowley, EVT: 1-0-1, -2, 0 PIM
    C Mitch Fadden, LET: 1-1-2, +1, 2 PIM (roughing)

Both Lightning prospects registered a goal in the game, with Crowley scoring a first period power play goal to tie the game at one, and Fadden scoring shorthanded into an empty net to give the game its final score. Fadden also assisted on the game’s opening goal, on the power play. Lethbridge has earned at least a point in its last 7 games.

Prince George Cougars 4 @ Vancouver Giants 7
    C/W Dana Tyrell, PG: 0-1-1, +2, 4 PIM (hooking, checking-from-behind)

Prince George hung with the CHL’s eighth ranked team until the Giants blew a tie game open in the third period with three straight goals and four total. Tyrell’s assist came on the power play.

Red Deer Rebels 2 @ Kelowna Rockets 3
G Torrie Jung, KEL: Did Not Play.

Kristofer Westblom stopped 21 of 23 for Kelowna in his fourth straight start. It appears the only action Jung will get from hereon out will be spot duty and back-to-back sets.

Craig and Norm Milley were the first and third stars of the game, respectively.

Justin Keller finally breaks through for his first goal of the season. At least 19 more of those would be nice.
