Default 10/8 Lighting @ Sabres 7:30

Game is on NBCSN tonight

Found these lineups on twitter, didn't see a mention of our goalie but saw that Miller did not practice.
Malone-Stamkos-St Louis: Killorn-Filppula-Panik; Palat-Johnson-Purcell; Labrie-Thompson-Crombeen

I don't like the swapping of Panik and Purcell if that is any indication of what the future holds.

Filppula and Purcell is too much Charmin on a line. Hopefully it'll force Panik to play his edgier style.

Similarly, Palat and Johnson are diggers. Purcell can dance and hit them with a great pass.

Seems like a change in the mix to me, moreso than an indictment of a particular player.

Palat and Johnson are small, Panik is the muscle on that line. Palat is also very creative and a good setup guy, a lot like Purcell, so it is redundant. Similarly, Flippula already has a grinder/north-south kind of guy in Killorn on his line. I'd love to see Panik get more ice time, but he's replacing the wrong guy.

Purcell also isn't very well suited for the third line with his inconsistent energy level, and your talking about a reduction of ice time for a skilled forward.

Ideally, I'd swap Malone and Panik. Malone would provide some veteran leadership, size, and also with less playing time would be less susceptible to injury. Some of Malone's best production came when he was with Moore on the third line a few years ago and the #1 PP unit.

Cooper tried these lines a bit at the end of the Bruins game and they actually clicked for a couple of shifts. At some point, though, if the top line keeps sputtering he's got to pull Malone off that group and put Killorn or Purcell on it.
