Very deserving, and very happy to see it. No one better than him to lead this team. Stamkos in 2-4 years...but Marty's time is now.

"Old and Short"

I don't know that I've ever seen a team make naming the captain into this sort of event.

Agreed, and I don't like it. Too much hubris, too much fanfare. I definitely think fans should be involved, but not with this

And rightly so. I don't know that I've ever seen a man toil so tirelessly in outright obscurity, so consistently underpaid, for so many seasons ending in frustration despite his on-ice and off-ice leadership...all the while demonstrating by example that all the remarks of the naysayers, the all-pervasive "they", about being too small to compete in a big man's league, about playing for a laughingstock franchise for so many years, were pure hogwash. This man stands ten feet taller than all his detractors, and yet this ceremony was small and quiet enough that I'd never heard about it until just now (and I'm a bit of a Lightning fan), which is in keeping with Marty's well-known dignity and humility. Well done, TBL. And well done, Captain Marty St. Louis

The event was amazing and very well organized. Of those that attended, I did not hear a bad word as all seemed to love it.

As I sat in the balcony I was wondering why Mr. Vinik did not just hold this event at the arena. At the end I knew why. The man has class, and I mean real class. This event was also for the players. It showed those that have not been convinced and those that are new to the team that Mr. Vinik is the man you want to play for. This event sent a message that the team is "Tampa Bay's Team" and that quality is #1.

After I left the event my daughter and I were stopped by this man who asked how we liked it. I said it was first class. We talked for 5-10 minutes about Tampa and St. Pete. I told him that the land the arena sits on has trash when I came to Tampa in 1973. The water front was a joke. He told us were he was from and what projects he worked on before joining Mr. Vinik. Seems he and my daughter were from the same place and they had worked in the same building. Talk about a small world. He said the fans will be surprised with their visions for the land around the arena. It was the first time I have directly heard someone from Mr. Vinik's team say the words baseball stadium.

As for Marty, very well deserved. Marty is the walking poster for anyone that plays this game, and even those that do not, that if you give your all good things will happen. Marty did not come into this league as a #1. He did not come into this league with all waiting to see what he can do. He fought for everything he has earned.

If only we had more Marty's in this world.
