Gonna miss Vinny a lot. Thanks for everything #4 and you'll always be welcome back!
This move squarely puts the bullseye on Yzerman IMO. This had to be Yzerman who pushed for this so now it's on Yzerman to produce results. I'm one of his biggest supporters but if you make a move like this you better know what the fuck you're doing

Default So

So Mr. Vinik just wrote a 30 million dollar check to Vinny. Holy big check Batman! Montreal has to be salivating right now!

I agree Hoek, you hit the check right on the spot.

I refuse to believe a drastic course of action like this was taken without any sort of plan.

Echoing the thoughts of everyone who posted before me...

Sad, bitter-sweet, understandable... Business is business.

We are now devoid a number 2 center (for the time being).

We are also devoid a Captain.

A new road for the organization has been formed. It'll no doubt be interesting to see where this road goes, where VL4 ends up, and the fan base reaction.

Thank you, Vinny, for everything you've done in the community. Thank you for being a part of the organization and contributing to our success in 2004.

Best of luck

As a previous poster said, I believe it's on on Yzerman now. He had to sell Vinik on this, who would want to pay 30 million for a guy not to play for your team?

My hope, and I know it's a long shot, is Vinny and Yzerman had a "wink wink" deal that Vinny only sign a 1 year deal and re-sign with the Bolts next offseason. If not, Vinik just gave Vinny a hell of a retirement package.

Default Thanks

Thank you Vinny for everything you have done for our team and community. Thank you for helping the children in the cancer center and thank you for being a great player. I will never forget your handling of the puck and effort you made in game 7 to make two great passes to Fedotenko to score two goals to win the Cup in 04. While your career had its ups and downs those two plays in game 7 will always stay in my memory of you and your talent.

Good luck and God bless you and your family.

Seeing some noise about Filppula coming here? Not sure he's the solution.

Length of contract is what did vinny in. If he gets hurt we are saddled with that hit for too long. Echoing the sentiment here, mostly bitter

Yzerman says he's not going to use a second buyout. Does that mean we're stuck with Malone if no one takes him then?
