This is pasted from an email I received this morning from a friend who works with my company on software projects. Found it interesting to say the least but what is really exciting to me is he has fans wherever he has been that not only are rooting for him but also feel Bishop is really good.

"I'm looking out my back window across the street at the High School Ben Bishop attended in St. Louis. The hockey community here is thrilled that Ben is going to get a legit shot at being an NHL regular. He played for the local Jr A team, coached by John Cooper, then headed to U of Maine, drafted by Blues but got caught in a numbers game, then to Ottawa, again caught in a numbers game and now to Tampa.

I have a friend from my teenage days in the 60's that is the assistant
coach of Ottawa's AHL team in Binghamtom, NY. Last year for a while
they had Ben Bishop and Mike McKenna (one time Lightning keeper) both goalies from St. Louis. My friend said that Bishop is the real deal and when he gets a fair shot he'll do well. Hoping his time has come....."

I was pointed to ex-Lightning goalie Brian Eklund being a goalie coach, and running a goalie school, maybe someone they should look up? Can't be any worse.

I don't believe Bishop played for the Bandits. It was an opponent of Jon Cooper's team. He coached against big Ben.

Read that Bishop's 2 year deal is for $2.3M per season. Not bad

Does this count as one of the "years"?

I think you are getting Bishop and college FA contracts mixed up. College FA's who sign deals are sometimes using up a year of contracts for a few games (JT Brown last year, Sustr this year) in order to be a free agent that much sooner. Bishop was already signed and playing in the NHL this year. This extension is for the next 2 years
