Outside thoughts:

Bob McKenzie
Everyone I've spoken to this morning says Tampa situation cries out for an experienced hand. New guy has to get immediate buy-in from vets. Two months ago, I'd have said Cooper would succeed Boucher if there were a coaching change. Now? Much more inclined to think it will be vet.

Renaud Lavoie
Guy Boucher learned about his fate late last night. Players have a meeting with Steve Yzerman this morning.

Not saying that TB dismissing Guy Boucher was the wrong move but it's amazing how many coaches get fired when they get bad goaltending.

This team hasn't been the same since the '1-3-1' game vs. Philly that featured PHI sitting there not playing the puck on national TV.

Also, Vinny the coach-killer gets another one.

That's someone who has not watched this team play the last month.

Boy he is such an amazing coach killer it took him being hurt and away from the ice to get rid of this one.

I've never understood the whole "experience" angle in pro sports. There are some coaches out there who have won multiple championships that would get destroyed if they returned to the sideline/bench today. The sport changes, no reason why the people shouldn't.

EE retweets a quote that Mooney got from Joe Maddon about Boucher being a fantastic coach. Very subtle pushing of your agenda, Erik. Who gives a rip what Maddon thinks, he isn't going to say anything non-nice because there's no reason to.

For those of you desirous of an old school physical approach to the game -- Lindy Ruff is your man.

I hate to say it but the team's record in Fleming's absence proves that perhaps Boucher's weakness was in not surrounding himself with enough capable assitants. Too loyal to the ones he brought with him. He may still have it as a head coach but he needs better guys with him.

It definitely wasn't just bad goaltending. How many games have we lost where the goaltending actually showed up and everything else didn't?

On the flip side, how good would Lindy Ruff be if he didn't have Hasek and Miller between the pipes most of his career? Because he certainly won't have them here.

Could be. Hope he learns from this experience.
