Hmmm..... This is not worth a call from the league?

Sorry, I'm just so fed up with trying to figure out the rules and what is suspendable.

Wow....Islanders get Tim Thomas for a conditional 2nd round pick....odd.

By the way, when did Bill Pido turn into a blabbering idiot?

Wonder what the condition is - if Thomas plays, a 2nd. If he doesn't, $1?

They traded for him as a loophole. If the Islanders have his contract, which they don't have to pay him because Thomas won't report, then they save the salary but take the cap hit, which they need to hit the salary floor. And the Bruins get the cap hit off their books.

Glad we wasted all that time with a lockout when teams can still pull crap like this.

So I guess the league has no way to reject the trade as circumvention then?

My understanding is the pick occurs if he plays or gets traded to another team.

In theory, I wonder if the Islanders could "toll" the Thomas contract into eternity, artificially raising their team cap hit by however many millions he's supposed to make indefinitely.

I would think they could do that until he officially retires.
