As acknowledged by owls, Astašenko was not an easy period after the end of their career, in which he mocījies of addiction. One might expect that it is also the blurring of his life.

During the period from 1999th to 2001 Astašenko two seasons visiting the National Hockey League (NHL) unit Tampabejas "Lightning", 23 games gaining one goal, two assists and earned eight penalty minutes.

Latvian national team ranks Astašenko attended 2,001th and the 2006 World Cup, as well as the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Sample, he played 21 games, which broke out with seven goals and seven assists.

Last game professional career he played last season, when the team represented the Latvian "SMScredit.lv" and fourth in the Finnish league club "Muik Hockey."

In 2003, the United States, he was arrested for heroin possession. As later told the same Astašenko, following him out of trouble saved some young and talented players.
Sad news for the Lightning family. He spent parts of two seasons with the Vipers too.
