Waiting on the numbers to be released, but if this is a proactive move by Yzerman given the recent Jiri Hudler contract, we could be getting Purcell locked up on a cap friendly deal.

Not only did Teddy prove that 2010/11 was not a fluke, but he went ahead and greatly improved production on a worse team.
I hope the numbers are reasonable but I'm happy to have Teddy around for a while. |

Hudler's a little older but, yeah, given that he'll get a chance to cash in again in 3 years, one would think the deal will be reasonable.

Lavoie is pretty reliable. I do not doubt that number is accurate, though $4.5m might be the average annual value while the salary fluctuates a bit from year-to-year.

I think Purcell has the potential to put up a ton more points in the seasons ahead. Good move to get him wrapped-up for 3 more seasons before the CBA nonsense comes to a head.

Wow, I did not forsee Purcell getting 4.5 mil a year. I really wish Yzerman would have waited at least halfway through the season, so Purcell could have sweated being in a contract year a little. I suppose the risk there is if he starts tearing it up statistically, the price would be higher - but really, how much higher than 4.5 mil? I loved Purcell in 2010\11, but thought he sleepwalked through a lot of last season - right after he signed his last multiyear contract. I really hope it was a team wide issue (they did admit in the middle of the season they forgot how hard they had to work for the prior season's success) and not just a Purcell issue.
I would have thought extending him would have gotten us a cheaper rate than what we saw in free agency, for Hudler. Last edited by Pat664422; 07-10-2012 at 10:08 AM. |
