I hate people like like. Also in the same category, Senators who cry about the Government spending stimulus money, while they request the very same funds and have local press conferences extolling the benefits of the stimulus money. Fuck those people.

While I understand why Leopold signed Parise and Suter, and to certain extent he was making a calculated gamble. That being said I have never understood how he could in his right mind sign those contracts then turn around in the following months and crucify those type of deals in negotiations.

Because he knew he was going to walk into a negotiating room with the PA and argue that those same contracts should be marked down by the new CBA, so he's only have to pay a portion of what he agreed with Parise and Suter to pay. It's a scummy bitch move, to be certain, and I wouldn't be happy if I was one of the moderate owners having the process hijacked by an owner who pulled crap like that.

Update - Meeting Tues in NYC

NHL expects these owners to be in meeting: Ron Burkle, Mark Chipman, Murray Edwards, Jeremy Jacobs, Larry Tanenbaum and Jeff Vinik.

Having "staff" member from each side present in meeting was NHLPA request. NHL opted for Daly, which means PA will counter with Steve Fehr.

The Times had a list of owners going in, along with Jacobs and Vinik. Personally I think this is a PR stunt by the NHL and nothing will happen. If the federal mediators couldn't find a solution then I doubt this meeting will accomplish much, unless Jacobs goes over the top and pisses people off. Oh well we can hope.
