A Word About Saturday Night's Offline Event
Late last week, BP server had a drive failure event. Not super-critical as it was the RAID mirrored drive of the one the server uses in production. But, since it was our hot backup drive, it was important for this drive to be replaced and and re-synchronized to our production drive.
The server was powered down Saturday night (US), the drive replace, repowered, and the synchronization process restarted. I was under the impression this process was going to happen overnight, and not right around the end of Game 2 of the Calder Cup Finals. I guess I was mistaken. Anyway, the synchronization process for the new backup drive did not go well, and the machine will be de-powered again around midnight tonight (June 4 US-CDT) to replace some faulty hardware. So, our downtown isn't yet done, but hopefully by this time tomorrow it will be.

Drive replacement completed last night and as you know our server is back up and running.
The server was de-powered and and everything re-seated, and the drive replaced again. It showed the same symptoms. So... server was powered back down and the drives moved into another chassis. The new chassis has a better CPU (quad core 2.4GHZ vs dual core 2.4GHZ), the same RAM, but also hotswap drive bays. So if there are further disk issues, they can be hotswap'd without powering down. After that, there was an upgrade to our VPS hosting stack running on the host. Now it's all running much better. The RAID array rebuilt at a normal speed. Hopefully, we'll have some better performance from the server.
