Well Sir SY has spoken, and the cure will not be through free agency. He says he will go the trade route.
According to the Times: Plan A is Cory Schneider Plan B could be Bernier Plan C could be Lindback But the thing that jumped out the most in the article is that Marty, who turns 37 in June, told DC that if things look like they can not get turned around he would consider moving on for that one last chance to play for the Cup. Seems Marty has told SY to fix the problem or help me find that other team. Quote:

I'd love to see Cory here in Tampa. He is young and his NHL stats are just awesome. I hope SFY gets us a good #1 goalie and we win the cup next season

EE framed that Marty quote the opposite way. That Marty was staying no matter what because he believes in Yzerman.

DC does like to create the occasional drama, imo.

I'm with Bolts_26. Ever since mid-season, this season, I've been watching basically every game Schneider started for the Nucks, I'd love nothing more than to see him in a Bolts uniform. For a long time. The problem is going to be what, how much will he have to give up for him. I hope this happens.

At this point, other than Hedman and Stamkos, who cares what we have to give up. We NEED a quality #1 goalie more than anything. Something to solidify that position once and for all.

Exactly. The core of this team is set and we have been re-establishing a ton of organizational depth. We can afford to give away a few picks or a few prospects to solve what has been this team's key problem since 2004.

There's simply no doubt in my mind. You go get your franchise goalie. It's going to take a trade and the cost will be significant but justifiable.
The organization isn't as imbalanced (forward-heavy) in terms of its depth and prospects as it once was but goalie is the one position that he has not attempted to address beyond stopgaps. The surplus of picks and prospects is there to make it happen. Marty and Vinny aren't getting any younger and Stamkos is in his absolute prime. It's time. If Yzerman can fix the goaltending before or at the draft and then key in on getting a top-4 defenseman, he'll have done wonders for the current window of opportunity without mortgaging the future of this franchise. Why is SFY coming out and saying he is going after Schneider now? The article indicates he is our first choice and we have picks to deal. For me that is not the way to negotiate unless the parameters of the deal are already in place. Otherwise this just ups the ante inmy book. Oh you want to keep Marty and need a goalie, dang there went your bargaining position. The price of poker just went up and we are not in a good position. The only other option is that this article is a smokescreen for what we really want to do or go after.
