Vinik has (temporarily) dropped his bid for Channelside.

More than anything, what I read into this is that Ashkenazy (the former owner) is clogging up the process in such a way that Vinik has to back off until the Port can tell Ashkenazy to take a long walk off Pier 60.

Agreed though. No way Vinik just "walks away" especially after buying the land north of the forum also. I'd say it's Vinik being smart and not potentially putting himself in the middle of an unecessary legal tussle

My undertsanding of the situation is Anglo Irish Bank was supposed to "throttle back" Ashkenazy and their machinations of reclaiming it's foothold on Channelside and was unable to do so. (OoB/M&A).

Mr. Vinik is essentially hitting pause till this all gets sorted out. No doubt staying in it will cause further delays because of AAC will undoubtedly sue to excercise their first right of refusal and this whole window of revitalizing Channleside does have a rather small window. Further delays shrink that window.

Also, there seems to be some "positions" requesting a temporary "dial-down of the volume" on certain aspects "relating to Hillsborough County and downtown Tampa".



Oh... and any media types trying to tie in this latest situation and the lockout is absolute nonsense and should be taken out back and repeatedly beaten about the skull with a tack hammer till rendered unconscious.
