For that reason, and the ones provided by WaiverWire (arbitration), I would say it is still not out of the question to acquire Cory simply because Vancouver may find out they have no choice.

However, if Schneider is taken out of the picture, I would like to see us get Bernier and keep Garon. We all know that Garon has proven to be a good goalie and was even able to be extremely solid when he had to start 8+ games and could even be better playing just 30 or so games a year.
Bernier would be fine, depending on the price tag. If you platoon Garon and one of Harding or Vokoun that would probably win us the division if things stay similar between now and next year.

Problem is, Harding and Vokoun would probably want to go to a team where they will be the clear-cut #1 goalie and both should get big offers from teams lacking a goalie.

If we sign one of them, and have Garon on roster, I'm sure they would, but not with Bernier.

I simply think our #1 option should be go after Schneider still, but look towards Bernier/Lindback with Garon duo for next year if Schneider is not available.

Why wouldn't they be #1 on our team? Vokoun can still outplay Garon, Harding can if he stays healthy.

That's not what I was saying. I was saying that if we get rid of Garon to acquire one of the young goalies we've been talking about, I don't think Harding nor Vokoun would come here.

I guess I misread. I agree with that but I wouldn't want us to look at Harding or Vokoun unless Yzerman decides Bernier or Schneider aren't the future or are too pricey.

I'm under the impression that Yzerman will be looking for somebody who is close to a sure bet to be able to take over the number one role. Does Jonathan Bernier really fit the bill? He only played 16 games this season and posted a decent but not great .908 save % behind a good defensive team. Considering the assets it will cost, I'm not sure that's a risk management is willing to take.

Here's the key to remember -- if VAN doesn't trade CS at the draft, then that means that want to keep him no matter the cost. Gillis can easily dump him for handsome dowry if he wants to, and he certainly understands the cost risks if he decides to keep and extend.

It really is no more dramatic than that.

That is too bad for Ohlund, and bad for us also. Well what do we do with that contract?

The contract is a non-factor for the on-ice team, at least. We're not close enough to the cap for it to matter there and even if we were, there'd be the LTIR.

Sucks for Ohlund to have to sit back and watch when he probably still wants to play.
