Apparently there was a major power outage in the Dallas area and our hosting provider lost the ability to ... well, host.

Reading the message boards for the hosting company, they took a lot of heat yesterday, and rightfully so. We apologize for the inconvenience us not being online may have caused. At least it wasn't draft day. |

It was a freakish thing at the data center apparently. Lost some significant equipment. There were levels of service that we can buy to have keep us in a super-redundant configuration that would guarantee 24x7. We're not exactly eBay or Amazon, and our shoestring budget really doesn't allow for that level of service. Nevertheless, first time I've ever seen anything like this before. But then again I said that about 9/11, Katrina, the Nashville Floods, the Tuscaloosa tornadoes, and the Japanese tsunami. Not that I'm equating BP's downtime with those disasters, but just seems like a surprising shit is the order of the day these days.

Did they have any kind of backup power? I know you weren't paying for five 9's but it couldn't have been just a power loss, which you seem to be alluding to since it was a freakish thing, guess the backup went out too?

After going without BP yesterday – now I know what people mean when they talk about giving up cigarettes. Only my addiction won’t kill me.

True. I may not post as much as I did previously, but I miss the read.
