I figured after last nights loss that the Lightning arent going to make the playoffs.
So the idea to make this thread came to mind just a place to talk about the draft and who you would like to see the Lightning pick etc/what picks we have. 1st-1 2nd-0 (Traded in the Recchi deal to Boston) 3rd-3 (Lightning own pick, Floridas pick aquired from LA in the Halpern deal and Anaheims pick aquired in the R2 deal) 4th-2 (Lightnings own and Sharks from the Boyle deal) 5th-0 (Traded to Nashville for the 148th pick last year which was used to draft Zador) 6th-1 7th-1 8 picks in total At the minute our 1st round pick is 7th overall and looks like it will be somewhere in the top 10 when the season is over. Picks around there I wouldnt mind at this stage: Forwards: Granlund, Kabanov, Connolly, Watson and Burmistrov Dmen: Gudbranson, Merrill or Pysyk Dont think we should draft a goalie this high, especially given how well Janus and Tokarski are playing right now. El Nino could still sneak up there to 7.

I highly doubt Gudbransson slips past the 5th pick. I would love to have Niederreiter in the 7-10 range. Tarasenko would be great too, but there's that "russian factor". Plus I'm sure Dudley will make sure to trade all available assets to move up and draft him.

I'm interested in how high Calvin Pickard goes. |

We're far closer to having a ping-pong ball give us another #1 overall than we are making the playoffs.
I'm thinking the Lightning end up with a Top 5 pick.

I'd take him at 7, even if he stayed slotted at 10/11. Then again, Connolly and Pysyk are sure to be there... really all depends on what they want to do and where we land as far as selection. FW or D

I'm a big fan of Connolly.
I think if he were healthy all year he'd be top-5. |

Unfortunately, the way we're heading we're falling out of the slots where the centers would be. Might have to take a pass on that this year and see what comes our way next year's draft. If we were picking anywhere, say 10-12, the only two I might consider picking before they're slotted (Center) is the kid from Minny Bjugstad or Johansen (El Nino's Center in Portland). At this rate though, we're single digits for sure.

In the later rounds, the Lightning need to lean over and take a peek at Dean Lombardi's list.
I was going to ask who El Nino was, but then I saw a certain player's first name. ![]() |
