Nothing explains Santorum's surge to me except people like what they hear, which is terrifying, frankly. Between him & Newtie it's a toss up as to who could do more damage. Quote:

That reminds me, when asked for one word to describe himself, Gingrich said 'cheerful'.
![]() Of all of the candidates, he's the one constantly mired in doom and gloom discussions. What a complete waste of oxygen that guy is. |

Romney's dad left office over 45 years ago. Many of his supports are dead. And remember that many were not even born when he was there.
And just what is a negative ad? Is telling the others voting record a negative? I see it only as a negative when the truth is stretched, and all sides have done that. |

I consider a negative ad, something like Rick Scott did last year where he put a feeble looking old lady in an ad who talked about how Alex Sink was putting senior's money at risk because she mismanaged state funds.
That was a total distortion. It was the state employee pension funds that were managed by a firm that reported to 2 Republicans and Sink. Everybody lost money in the market during that time. It had nothing to do with the senior citizens, if anything, it was retired state workers who were at risk, however, even after that loss, the fund was more than adequately funded. Scott didn't talk about what he was going to do to manage pensions, didn't talk about the changes that he was going to spring on the state workers, nothing about what he was going to do - just a fear ad about Sink.

I disagree. Santorum is more dangerous because he believes the rhetoric he is spewing. Newt is simply playing to the crowd. Santorum is authentically advocating a return to 1955, Newt is simply an authentically disengenous asshole.

The only guy in the GOP primary who really believes what he's saying is Ron Paul. He's the most dangerous man in that field because he'd gut the federal government if he had the chance to. The rest of the GOP pays lip service to shrinking government down to the size it can be drowned in a bathtub, but Paul's serious about it. Romney would likely govern like Dubya and give a bunch of corporate welfare out to his big business pals, as would Gingrich and Santorum, because at their heart they're all mainstream Republicans. Paul's got no hidden motive to funnel money to his sugar daddies. You have to respect it, because he does show a certain integrity. But, his ideology terrifies me and I'm glad he's not a serious contender.

What I find funny is the claims how some of the candidates are saying only what they have to say to get the vote in a state, "pandering to the crowd". Politicians have been doing this forever. It is just with today's technology that we can now catch them at it and the media can't look the other way thanks to the INTERNET. |
