Jack Skille signed a two-way deal with the Islanders. The talk in Columbus was that he was looking for a one-way deal, so I guess that didn't work out.

In other Islanders news, from Arthur Staple...

According to sources, #Isles were more than competitive with offers to targeted FAs: Offered 3 years to Dan Boyle, 4 years to Jarome Iginla.
Would be unbelievable if it were anyone other than Garth Snow.

What happens when you're Ken Holland and you strike out on every single decent defenseman on July 1?

You re-sign Kyle Quincey for two years at $4.25 million per year.

This won't win "worst signing of the day" but it's easily an honorable mention.

Had my eye on Skille, but wasn't sure he'd take a two-way.

I haven't seen the numbers yet, but I'd imagine he got a second year or a some pretty decent dollars. Columbus, who I didn't think was going to be much of a player, hasn't signed a single player -- and yet they've lost Matt Frattin (trade), Jack Skille, Blake Comeau, and Derek MacKenzie (all UFA). They're going to need to plug at least one, more likely two holes on their third or fourth lines. I wonder if there are designs to find someone with upside higher in the lineup, and that's why Jarmo was so quick to pass on those three UFAs?
