He did the EXACT SAME CRAP in the Third Period when he got tapped by a stick on the shin pad crossing the Lightning blueline and he flung himself down to the ice to try to draw a call and thank God the refs didn't take the bait that time. He's a diver, and the refs not only didn't hold him accountable for it, they went outside of the rules to reward him for it by adopting a protocol to further disadvantage the Lightning. It's flat out wrong.

It was so bad even NBCSN, which is clearly no friend of the Lightning, commented on the fact Oshie was untouched when he went down AND that they didn't believe putting Hedman in the box rather than Gourde was a reviewable play.

My take is that they reviewed to make sure the game time was right, which is allowable under the rules (see NHL rule book under time keeper). When they watched the clip from the video review they realized they put the wrong guy in the box and made the switch.

So they did not review the play, as they can not, but they reviewed for the correct time. in doing so they made sure the correct player was in the box.

If they were looking for the correct player to put in the box, the answer was Oshie for diving.

Yup. 77 definitely swung his stick backhanded, but the “fall” (dive) was a result of his stepping on the stick—not the stick tripping him up. Two poor calls from the refs simultaneously.

But they can not review the play. It was called, bad or not, and they can not use the review to over turn it. But they can use the review to set the proper time. They just took it another step and saw the wrong guy was in the box.

It could had been as simple as the ref only saw the "7" on the jersey and picked out the wrong guy, and then corrected himself.

Those that have played the game will tell you that things happen out there fast. Add into the fact this is the NHL and things happen super fast. I can see the ref sitting the wrong player in the box. But at least he finally got it right.
