I think looking to Dotchin is kind of silly. Our problem isn't the traffic, it's dealing with the 1-1-3 trap they are using. We're not managing the puck through the NZ, feeding their transition game which leads to odd-mans against. No road grater in front of Vasy is going to solve that glaring problem.

Forwards need better back pressure on back checking, D need better gaps, and everyone needs to be on their toes skating forward and never passing up a chance to hit anyone. A team playing at 8-9/10ths is not going to win in the Conference Finals. This team is playing at 8-9/10ths.

If they manage to find their game again and string more than 2 shifts together skating on their toes, they can easily beat the Caps. Right now, that appears to be a huge ask though.

Cooper did make the adjustment of putting the Paquette line on the Ovechkin line, and believe it or not the fancy stats say that putting the heavier line on them has actually worked reasonably well. The problem is the other three lines are getting killed at evens because, as Zeyk said, they're stupidly skating head long into the 1-1-3 and getting their pocket picked every time. They need to start dumping and chasing (which is less fun) and be willing to battle through the interference to turn their D around. It sucks, but it has to be done to win. And, frankly, there's no excuse for the other three lines to be getting fed their helmets by their counterparts because on paper they are superior players. They're just not asserting themselves smartly. Think how we beat a much more talented Caps team in 2011 using the 1-3-1. Same thing.

One thing for sure Lightning are not having fun and right now are playing with no emotion. Any kind of win would be a huge lift. JT Miller and McDonagh were awful last nite. All we ask is please play hard. Go Bolts!!

Maybe... I was just frustrated with the ol' trick of the D helping play goalie vs take their man and the turn over vs offering a real solution... now, less than 24 hours later, I'm just becoming more apathetic than anything else.

Forced Willful Apathy is my defense mechanism of choice as well. I'm right there with you.

As mentioned earlier, Stralman's mobility appears to me to be severely limited. First of all, he is slow to move the puck up when in the corners or deep on the boards, and the result is he is getting rocked pretty good after letting it go. On Eller's and Ovi's goals, in the former he was down behind the net and labored to get up, then on 8's he went down in a slide and showed no strength to defend the shot or pass. He just looks plain weak to me. He's got to be hurt in some fashion. I guess we'll see what Coop does, if anything.

The on ice officials have taken that game away from us. So far the on ice officials are looking the other way when it comes interference, grabbing and holding. When we do dump we are being held up and/or tossed to the ice thus allowing a Cap player to gain control of the puck.

You can call it play-off hockey if you want, but if that is the case then call it the same way during the season.

LOL I respectfully disagree. IMHO it's appropriate, trendy, and descriptive; not abusive, profane, racist, insensitive, off topic, or otherwise forbidden. But call it "misleading data", if you find it catchier.

Excellent question nutz. I have no info on that
