Default UFC thread

Didn't see a thread so I thought I would start one.

Anyone looking towards this Saturday when Anderson Silva takes on Chael Sonnen? Chael's trash talking has gotten on my nerves.

I am that guy Avery.....I really, really hate it...Mostly i hate it because it gets way too much attention from the sports world...It is entertainment for some....not sports
Boxing, at least, has a science to it...
IMO, this is just two scary-looking guys trying to beat the hell out of each other in a cage. I don't find that entertaining at all.

at least with wrestling, you knew it was fake and could laugh at times.

If you can call golf a sport, then MMA fighting is definitely a sport.

Why don't you think MMA has any 'science' to it?

So, it's boxing plus whatever else they can come up with? That seems more entertaining than only being to throw punches.

A buddy of mine from college always said that if you could smoke a cigarette or drink a beer while playing, it wasn't a sport -- it was a game. Golf was always the problem example with his theory.

You have to be kidding on golf and MMA, right?

There is no science. It's just a bunch of steroid-induced thugs grabbing each other...

There is a science to it, if you look at the fighters more near the top of the ladder then they use every possible means to win. Take George St Pierre for example, he has olympic wrestling skills and he uses that to full effect, he's smart about his fighting. He takes his opponents down and works them over for 3-5 rounds earning a easy decision win. Yeah it's not the most fun fight to watch but he's one of the fighters that displays the technical side of the sport.

Mainly is the guys that are trying to get recognition that go out and bang the entire time.

I've seen plenty of boxing in my day, I'm just not into watching 2 guys kick each other in the face (apologise if I have the wrong sport).

I've thought about starting a golf thread, now I'm glad I didn't.

Geez, the guy just wants to discuss an upcoming match, what's the big deal?

Guilty pleasure for some. I don't care for it either, but I was a rasslin' fan some years back so I have no room to criticize.
