Default AHL Playoff Game Night: 5-8-18 Marlies at Crunch

Crunch comeback falls short. Marlies complete sweep.

Connor Ingram allowed 2 goals on 23 shots for the loss.

Third Period
10:29 SYR McNeill (2), (Lynch, Verhaeghe)

Ingram was the game's second star.

This was a really strong season for Syracuse in terms of both overall performance and the ability to develop a very young group of players in the process. It's a shame that may end up being tempered by the embarassment of being swept by a very deep and powerful Toronto Marlies club. Looking forward to next year the club will get yet another influx of high caliber youth like Boris Katchouk and Alex Barre-Boulet, among others. So, the success is sustainable, but Toronto remains a problematic adversary in the division to overcome.

I don't think the result was that surprising given the current state of the Crunch. A healthy Crunch team makes this a different series IMO. The team really missed not having top 6 guys like Bournival and Dumont, as well as depth like Yan. Add to that Peca being nowhere near 100% health-wise, Condra never getting back to last seasons form and Bodie suspended.

Of the games I caught, Joseph and Volkov stood out. I don't have a clue how or when we clear spots in the NHL for them, but both played a strong 200ft game and were good on the forecheck. Stephens was decent. Masin and Cernak are going to be a damn good shutdown 3rd pair one day. Foote looked steady. Thomas was terrible. Ingram looked like a legit NHL prospect in goal.
