What forwards/defensemen are available this summer?

A ready-made, young, top four defenseman is worth a No. 1.

For the most part agreed. In and of itself, not a bad trade. Although I'd argue O'Brien was hardly established as a "top-four" guy at the time.

I've shared my thoughts on the SOB deal elsewhere. Context is what kills it.

Still, the point is, I think Boyle can fetch at least an equivalent return even with his impending UFA status. If no extension agreement can be reached before the deadline, Feaster will have his first opportunity as a GM to show what he can accomplish as a seller. Let's hope for a bidding war.

Well, Egener and Rogers getting hurt repeatedly actually is bad luck, and asking a defenseman like Mihalik to step in at 20 years old is semi-crazy given the position he plays.

The guy they don't have an excuse for is Smaby. He should've made the team this year over Janik and he should've been pushing for bigger minutes by now.

Exactly. And with Boyle the likely prize (or Hossa) of the deadline, I think he'll command a high price. IMO, take the "or" out of Pete's prediction and replace it with an "and." Drive this way up until the last day.
