My, my. David Poile had one Jedi mind trick left in him. Well done, sir.

If they buy him out, they'd be writing him a $36M check this summer. Think they'd do that??

It has now been reported that Erat requested a trade.

Is there something wrong with Forsberg that's causing the Capitals to sell so early on him?

Highly unlikely, but with the cap coming down he becomes a bigger and bigger waste of space. If any team would do that it'd be them.

I'm just asking if we would even be interested at this point even if we finally get a discount from him with the youth movement on.

caps will regret that trade. forsberg will be a force. still can't belive he fell to the caps on draft day. if not nearly every team hadn't gone for d-men, he could have been no. 3, 4 or 5 in the draft
and erat played not good this year

Yeah. Way, way too proactive for Poile to do on his own volition.

Wow... David Poile goes down in history as the GM that traded Martin Erat. Crazy legacy.

Apparently Luongo was on TSN saying his contract sucks and he wished he could terminate it. He said we would terminate the contract if it meant he could just play somewhere. Says his contract is the reason he wasn't traded.

I like Luongo. A lot. He's 100% correct too. No question there were teams that wanted the guy but didn't want to give up the assets AND take the contract. He just sounds like it's about pride and not money.

Maybe now with Richards and Luongo regretting their contracts so publicly, players will stop being railroaded by their agents into signing such shitty deals for their teams?

Hahahahahahaha! No.

The business side of the NHLPA would never allow him to void his contract. Bad precedent and a really strong chip to put in owners hands to get rid of contracts they no longer want. Vinny and Brad immediately come to mind as full time popcorn servers who could be forced out in this manner.

Not that anyone up here know of. No Caps fan I've spoken to has liked this deal. Poile gets Forsberg for Erat -> now think about Jagr and Iginla's return. This screams McPhee is on the hotseat.

Luongo will be a broadcaster somewhere after his career in the NHL is over. @strombone1 is a solid follow on Twitter.
