He still has to get Point under contract, but it's hard not to like what BriseBois has done in his first offseason.

He's done the thing that elite teams in our position should be doing, but for some reason Yzerman never really did. Go poach those older UFA's who want to go hunt titles on the cheap on 1-2 year deals to flesh out the last few spots on your roster and keep the group hungry and the chemistry in the locker room fresh.

Shattenkirk and Maroon theoretically have a little more tread on the tires than those two. Hard to argue with Maroon's deal. Like Shattenkirk, low downside, high upside.

I'm happy with the deal, and happy with the offseason overall (once Point is resigned obviously).

Maroon certainly ups the physical quotient from the lower lines. Hopefully whatever AHL rookies make the squad will bring a little bit as well.

Were 300 years old when they got here. Maroon is 31. Shattenkirk is 30. These are guys who still have tread left on their tires.

All I know is with what we had to offer and without giving anything up, I'm pretty happy with these 2 moves.

Guessing that we will be more active at the trade deadline this year if needs arise. The extra draft picks could come in handy.
