Default SCF Game 5, June 13 2015

Let's win this one and go to Chicago with a 3-2 series lead. We can do it boys. Be the thunder.

Leave it all on the ice, boys! No regrets!

The Lightning just need to play their game. At 5-on-5, in the flow of play, they're simply the better team. Therefore, they just need to cut down the number of lifelines they throw to Chicago that the Blackhawks might use to manufacture goals and wins. What are those lifelines?

1. Unforced turnovers

No team can survive them. The Lightning have tightened up greatly from G7 of the NYR series on in this respect.

2. Penalties

Their power play is their best weapon right now. Don't let them put it on the ice.

3. Unforced icings leading to defensive zone draws

This is like set pieces in soccer. Lose a draw and you give the Blackhawks opportunities for possession they don't seem to be able to build consistently in the run of play. Lose a draw cleanly, and it might be in the back of your net even more quickly.

Keep clean in those three areas, and the Lightning have about a 90% chance of winning this game, IMO, with only puck luck being the stray element that would give CHI a chance.

4. Win some damn faceoffs. The game winner came after another lost faceoff.

In the immortal words of Dusty 'The American Dream' Rhodes:

Two more hours, I'm getting antsy for this game to start. We've been waiting 11 years for this chance to happen again and I'm not getting any younger! Let's go Bolts!

Feels like the buildup to this game has been weeks in the making.

I'd really, really like to avoid a repeat of 2004, where Oleg Saprykin nearly made me pass out at Press Box. Can we please, for our collective cardiac health, just pot a couple early goals and have this thing in hand quickly? Hockey gods?

I think they just put this up today, it's the on-ice pre-game projection from Game 2. Not sure if it got me more pumped or made me more nervous, but it's something else.
