![]() After the Coburn trade, Sustr will be back to 3rd pair minutes.

![]() What I like about our move(s) today was that we really did very little to change the face of our team.
Other teams loaded up for the play-off run. I will be waiting to see which teams screwed up their chemistry. |

If you've been paying attention the last couple of years, Yzerman now keeps a cupboard full of draft picks, and that's how you acquire a piece like today and still have 10 picks in the draft. |

![]() ![]() More like Foghorn Coburn. I wouldn't insult John Wayne like that. His ghost is tougher, and more physical than Foghorn.

![]() Quit dancing around it Fready. Tell us how you really feel about the long-term effects of replacing a tough bastard like Gudas with Coburn.

![]() A lot of money tied up in defense now. I imagine you are right Derek and someone gets dealt this off-season. Thats a discussion for another day though. In the meantime, gladly ponder how much better we will be this playoffs with Coburn, Garrison, and Stralman eating important minutes instead of Kostka, Barbario, and Sustr. Plus an actual goalie

![]() IMO this year we make the show, and instead of being swept a healthy starter helps us win a series, maybe even two if we are extra abundantly fortunate. Next year Yzerman will have Bishoped up the D (made it an enviable area of strength instead of a glaring, easily exploited weakness), and we go deep. As it is, all you have to do is enter our zone...the D will sag back, leave you a giant gap to work with, and maybe try to blow you off the puck with the breeze from the stick waving...then you just crank it and jam the cage all you want, ram the goalie all you want...and our D will let you (29 other teams know it). Even when they get the puck, there's a 50/50 chance they'll pass it too weakly behind the net to avoid forecheckers, or send it softly back into the slot during a 'breakout' attempt...and, the D just lost its sole edgy, physical force, for good. Not a recipe for success in playoffs when whistles get swallowed. This is SFY's new gotta-fix-it issue, the last hole in the bucket

![]() So, until Carle comes back, are you guys thinking something like...
Hedman/Stralman Coburn/Garrison Sustr/Barberio (Nesterov) not sure how I would feel about that 3rd pair... or more Hedman/Coburn Nesterov*/Garrison Sustr/Stralman Insert Barberio Last edited by Jester47; 03-03-2015 at 08:57 AM. |

![]() Cooper has been trying to cover for his bad dmen by pairing them with strong guys. It wouldn't shock me if they try to get Coburn going with whoever his season long partner is going to be (Hedman or Garisson), and then pair the other of those two and Stralman with the two weaker guys.
