Probably to accumulate a bit more cap space as we get closer to the trade deadline. Plus Syracuse needs all the help on defense that it can get if he can clear waivers. I'm not 100% convinced he will clear with all the defensive injuries around the league and Schenn being on a league minimum contract.

How much cap space are you actually getting on a league minimum deal for such a short period of time?

I'm guessing the calculation is that they are ok with Masin or Foote OR maybe this tips off the possibility of a move for a medium level rental D-Man for the playoffs...

Good news. Helps the Crunch and keeps him available if and when needed down the road. I just like his game.

Mitchell Stephens and Luke Schenn have been officially re-assigned to Syracuse.

However, Joe Smith says that neither are expected to report, and that it's just a paper transaction during the break.

This team can add about $6 million now and more than $10 million at the deadline. (Cap Friendly has them with $13 million at the deadline, but that doesnít count Stephens or Schenn.

One must assume that they are planning on trying to make huge splash at the deadline if they are trying to add salary cap space when they already have so much available.

Or they are just making sure all options are available. I’m not sure we can read into their intentions quite yet.

So, assuming they do try to make a deal at deadline. I'm thinking Joseph and Vancouver's first rounder (assumed)...would be a good place to start.

Maybe Masin, Koutchuk, ABB, Raddysh..etc would also be movable pieces to add what I'm assuming would be rental type player(s)

Iím not trading Vancouvers #1, which could become a lottery pick next year.

I'm guessing it could be part of the way they phrase the deal, but I'm guessing it would be something like "whichever pick is higher" so...if Vancouver did not make playoffs, then it would be our 1st rounder...but I agree with what your saying.
