I'm on the fence about this. I can see the argument about his age catching up compared to his cap hit, but then I can see how he can move the puck... dunno.

I kinda feel for Danny and the house/wife/kid situation... thats rough.

If said teams meet said asking price, break down of "young" NHL roster players each team could offer:

Philadelphia - Parent (21), Coburn (23), Eminger (24), Kukkonen (26)

San Jose - Vlasic (21), Carle (23), Ehrhoff (26)

Vancouver - Edler (22), Bieksa (27)

What defenseman are they going to sign for 5 million? Who's out there that's worth that much now? Cambell and Blake are both signed. Did I miss something somewhere? I've been playing catch up but pretty sure I caught all the rumors.

EVERY trade involving a star is rumored to be a young NHL roster player, a prospect, and a 1st round pick. In this case I think the deal is much more complicated

While Philly WANTS a puckmoving dman and wanted Streit, I'm not sure it's something they need so bad that they'd be willing to give up that much. Timonen is their top pair puckmover, and Coburn and Jones also add that dimension. So does Eminger, for that matter, if he ever develops like he's supposed to.

TSN said that we were trying to sign Blake up until he was signed by SJ, and were disappointed that a deal couldn't be reached. That means two things, that the Lightning don't have to move Dan Boyle, and that teams like Philly are still in play because the Lightning can afford to take a big chunk of salary back. They aren't cutting bait like the Richards deal.
