Default Boyle to be traded?

There's a little Lightning video sportscenter update on TSN.ca right now talking about the ownership. In it, Darren Dreiger says that rumors around the NHL are that Dan Boyle could be had via trade.

(I'm not a big fan of rumors, but it seems lately there are no secrets from the TBL, and what's slipped out has come true.)

TSN spoke with Boyle's agent, and the agent said that they have not been approached by TB to waive his no trade clause.

They said the teams bidding for Brian Campbell will pay attention to this.

They also added that if TB will indeed be very active in FA, then they'll need the money from that contract.

----

It makes sense because Torts had to fight to keep Boyle in Tampa at the deadline. But they did sign him, and Oren said in one of the pressers the other day that they wouldn't be going after the puck moving dman FA because they had one of the best already.

I'm not sure what's in it for the Lightning on this one. They just signed him to a big contract, who would want to trade for that when they could try and sign Brian Campbell to one without giving up players?

Maybe they want to spend a bit less than Campbell will command? Or maybe there are teams that feel Boyle is better? I can't imagine why, but who knows. People do crazy things. I think they could certainly move him if they wanted to. I say sign Campbell and trade Boyle. Brilliant if I do say so myself.

Actually, he says the Bolts may need the cap room in order to be aggressive in FA. Think maybe if the Bolts trade Boyle they will go after a former Melrose player in Rob Blake?

I mentioned this in the other thread. Koules said that we aren't looking for puck-moving defensemen because we had one already, implying that we are keeping Boyle.

I think this is more wishful thinking on the part of outside journalists who think the Bolts need to dump salary.

Yes, because when I think of puck-moving defensemen I think of Rob Blake.

I don't think this rumor has any legs.

The lightning have some 14 million to spend before they reach 50 mill total (i think this is correct right?) So if they wanted 2 awesome forwards that would be 7 each. I don't think they are worried about cap room at all.

Melrose to Tampa didn't have any Legs, but yet was able to walk right in.
Koules tried to get rid of him at deadline, could be one leg.

Can you really be a puck-moving defensemen,if you turn the puck over as often as he does ?

Any thing is possible with OK Hockey, any thing

Heck, you listen to offers for Boyle. why not? Maybe someone blows you away and you sign Blake for a year or two.. I would think Boyler wouldn't want to waive his no-trade though. didn't he just buy a house in the area and is marrying a Tampa babe?

Or this could just be the latest incident in which a Canadian “journalist” *** has the Lightning trading away one of it’s better player because we just don’t deserve to have them on our roster…

* Although TSN is normally pretty good...
** This obviously excludes our good friend PEIBolt!!!
