So Jokinen is the problem even though we have countless other guys playing with just as little passion who have lower production and considerably lower talent. Vrbata got a fat new contract last year with credentials that weren't as impressive as Jokinen's. Roberts hasn't had a 40 point season in 3 years, and hasn't had a 50 point one since the turn of the century. We have countless guys that have never had a season in their career anywhere close to Jokinen's worst. Not only that, but Jokinen succeeded with this team last season when he was able to stay on one line and actually build chemistry.

If you can explain to me how a guy who has averaged just under 50 points a season for the past three years isn't an asset, I am listening. I don't see it, other than our ownership getting bent over a desk.

He isn't an asset if no one wants him and you have to pay 1.875 for a mediocre player next year just to keep him.

Exactly. Don't think it can be made much clearer than that.

If we had a team filled with scoring talent I'd buy it. We don't. We should not be dumping offensively talented young players.

I get where you are coming from Backstop but the guy simply doesn't fit Toc's type of player. He is soft and overpaid. This team can't afford to keep a soft, shootout specialist if he doesn't produce. If I am reading your posts correctly, you feel that given a steady role on a line he can develop. Unfortunately, he has not shown me he is a guy this team can count on. The fact no other team is interested speaks volumes to me.

You know how many players we had last season that scored 40+ points in a Lightning uniform? Four. One of them is gone. When we got rid of Richy, we got two guys back that were supposed to help remedy that, and have very solid histories of 40+ point seasons even with third line ice time. When he was on a steady line last season, he was producing. 14 points in 20 games. I can buy that he doesn't fit into Tocchet's system as a reason for getting rid of him. Is it a good reason? Well, if you think you can make a team full of grinders produce goals, then maybe so. We shall see.

Jesus. This team has been trying to unload Jussi Jokinen since July 10th. There's his market trade value. Zip.
Actually, yes I was. I figured that if the Rangers could waive Dan Fritsche and 2 days later trade him to the Wild for Erik Reitz that a player waived, goes unclaimed, and then be traded for a player coming back why couldn't the Lightning do it. That's why I said it was odd to me thats all.

Maybe a little overzealous and hoping we can stockpile picks perhaps. Wasn't aware they've been trying to unload him since July 10

Speculation, just like "no one wants him" etc.

Missed that the first time around. Which one of the three guys calling the shots is "professional sports management"? I could have sworn that all three of them had absolutely no experience in that field. If only they had a guy who knew the lay of the land already on staff. Oh wait, they paid those guys to go away. A perfectly logical move.
