The structuring of the McDavid and Price contracts which are heavy on yearly bonus payments will continue with others as players prepare for a 2020-2021 lockout - the CBA needs some major corrective work and I don't see the incentive of either side to fix it in advance of a lockout

It's kicked.

4 years no trade.

Strange that Palat went shorter term. I would've flipped the deals personally.

Maybe Johnson was willing to take a little less money for a longer term because of his size and Palat was willing to take a big more of a risk because of his.

As Bolthed pointed out, Johnson can be traded after 4 years without his consent. I haven't heard whether Palat has a NTC yet.

Joe Smith says it's a full NTC first 4 years, partial for final year but Capfriendly has the first year as no NTC. Not that Palat would be traded this coming season.

#tblightning Ondrej Palat has full no trade clause for four years, partial for final year of deal.

Agreed.
No surprise, I'm stoked by this deal. Much more than the Johnson one.

Congrats to both, one an undrafted free agent signing, the other a 7th round after thought, both locked in to long-term deals and have set themselves up for life. Next mission, add some silver to their resumes.

Not surprised by the length as Palat is a real gamer. He may very well have been thinking that if we can not win the cup by the time I'm 31 (he's 26) I want the opportunity to go to a team that can.

Raw Charge has recently gotten a lot of translators to help them out with articles from overseas, here's an interview with Palat, his take is rather interesting: Translation: Ondrej Palat, “If Drouin wasn’t traded, it might have been me or Johnson”

Interesting take there on the trade of Drouin. Underlining emphasis mine. If that's the impression or vibe his teammates got, contrary to what Drouin was saying to the press and fans, it's probably best that Yzerman moved him out and got the best possible return, even if it is within the division.

Drouin signed a good deal in Montreal. He wouldn’t get the same contract in Tampa. I think he wanted to go.
