My biggest concern would be Detroit poaching Masin.

Verhaeghe, Volkov and Smith have stood out and all 3 may make roster especially if Point does not sign.

I would be shocked if someone claimed him. He would have to be carried on the NHL roster for the entire year. Hes not ready for the NHL right now, and Im not sure he will ever be.
Before we signed Shattenkirk, I thought with a good camp he'd make it. He was one of the best defenders in the AHL with a +36, but he seems to struggle against better competition.

Per BP twitter (RT the Crunch feed), Wedgewood, Masin, Gaunce and Thomas cleared waivers. Good news. Chad's thoughts mirror my own.

Expected. Mason in AHL seems appropriate. Vets eat popcorn and stay on roster. Certainly looks like D will be Hedman-Sergachev
McDonagh-Cernak
Shattenkirk-Coburn

I see no point in carrying 8 defensemen. Pick which one you like the most for your 7th between Rutta, Schenn and Witkowski and send the others through waivers to play at Syracuse. I would be shocked if a team claimed any of those three and if they did it is no big loss.

So Point apparently won't be ready for the very start of the season as he recovers from the hip surgery he had. That probably opens a spot for Smith or Martel as an extra forward to start the year.

Mitchell Stephen's back to Syracuse...will he ever be able to crack this line up?

Yes - when Paquette's contract expires after this season and he becomes a UFA.

Totally agree, I can't see anyone picking Rutta off waivers...

I can't believe Shattenkirk signed here to only play 3rd pair minutes...
