The punisment is inadequate. If Murray knew he'd be missing at least the 1st round of playoffs for it, does he still deliberately stick out that elbow and blast Kostka in the back of the head?

I think the answer is "Fuck no."

I've also been very happy with him. Good pickup

TSN commenters tend to be the homer-iest of the homers or REALLY dumb kids.

I agree with Fraser's assessment. 10 year career, never been suspended & not known for dirty hits? 3 games wouldn't surprise me.

Never read TSN responses. Just as much evidence of widespread brain death as the dreaded youtube responses (I wish you had to click a button to enable response viewing on both sites....just scrolling down a web page shouldn't shove the rampant idiocy under your nose)

Anyway, as is often the case, Fraser is only partly right--the part about erring on the side of the more severe penalty when the ref is on the fence between major and match. Why he doesn't say that could be exactly what happened here, is anyone's guess. He acts like it was an instant reflex move, when it wasn't. Clearly Murray skated over to Kostka and got set up for the hit. He could have just kept his elbow at his side and gotten a lesser penalty. Either way, major or match, the supplemental discipline will be the same: not enough by a long shot

From what I have seen the least the NHL has given out lately for a hit to the head is 2 games. I think that is just what he will get.

Called it. That's fair though. No prior history and it seems that Shanny is finally getting some consistency with his rulings. Hell, Gudas didn't even get a fine let alone suspended when he hit Franzen in the jaw/head and gave him a concussion. Had Kostka not even gotten hurt it would have likely only been a game suspension.

Yeah, consistently not caring. I agree, right where I thought. And yes, no history. But that was as blatant as any I have seen in a while, and for a sport where they sit there talking about how tough they are getting on head shots, I'm waiting for them to send a message. He got up, but that was every bit as intentional as the on-ice penalty indicated. Did I expect a message? No. Unless your name is Torres, Shanahan will not send anything close to a message to try and eliminate these things. Not sure why the outrage, this is right what you had to expect.

That really isn't bad as if you go to the NHL suspension page those that got called for the same thing and had a good record got 2 games.
