With Feaster's track record with goalies I think it is a wise move.

I'm guessing Ramo could play Friday at NJ. I would hope they give Smitty a little bit of a break with three in four days.
I think playing Smith so much is to test whether they want to wrap him up on a contract before next season. He has one year left at $950,000, but if you wait too long it may be tougher to sign him. If they are confident in what they are seeing, maybe they can get him to sign for two-year $5 mil extention, which is reasonable. It will all depend on if he wants to gamble on having a great 08/09 and get more. If that's the case, great. That means we'll have a good season and we'll be happy to give him more..

Openly touting that he learned from the Denis debacle.

How do you tell before you make deal it is earth shattering?

Man,if you could do that what a tean you could have.
Smitty has already stopped more breakaways than we have seen since 2004.

But still need to know if it is real deal, smart to do so NOW,when team is firing Blanks.

That just seems like the way they've played all season. If Holmer was in goal they'd know they'd have to score 5 or 6 to have a fighting chance at a win. With someone back there who can actually stop pucks it seems like the effort on the offensive side is lowered. They did play really good D through 2 periods until the VL4 screw up at the end of the 3rd. They allowed only 10 shots on goal over the first two periods then give up 13 in the 3rd. Classic 3rd period break down.

If there's a silver lining or two, the whole situation with Smith really does set up nicely since the rest of the team has far less motivation and is playing like it. The results might be that: a) Smith's stats are unimpressive and the Bolts have good leverage when it comes to negotiating his next 1-3 years; and b) We get a better shot at Stamkos. Tough it out, people. This shit may be no fun to watch, but it's for the good of the team.

As for Vinny, I'm not going to be TOO too critical since he's witnessed the luster come off the whole franchise. But his leadership absolutely deserves some scrutiny. Just the same as Brad Richards' leadership deserved scrutiny, and the dynamic of those two best friends' impact (as leaders) on the rest of the team deserved scrutiny. No one can deny that there has been a malaise about the Lightning since they won the Cup. Not all of that can be blamed on Feaster's horrible mismanagement of the draft and the roster (yeah, I said it). Some of the burden of blame must be shouldered by the core - the Big 4 - and it still remains to be seen if more changes are required since they only cut out one of those four pieces. Chemistry is a tough little bitch to figure when you are putting a team together, so personalities and toughness (physical and mental) and yes, leadership skills (on and off the ice, vocal and by example) are factors that must be considered.

Right. They're still assessing his play ... after scouting him for two years.

Love it.

Huge differance in watching him play and seeing what he can do,for your team. I think it is smart to give him every chance to see what he can do.

Too DAMN Bad he has to try it for a team who's "TOP PLayers" have quit.

True. Ridiculous statement. No need to assess Smith's play. Marc Denis proved that an unproven goalie with some success in a defensive system will automatically do well here.

Why are you trading a franchise center for somebody who still needs to be assessed? Failed logic right there.
