"BIG TRANSFER NEWS! @Independiente's Ezequiel Barco is going to @ATLUTD. Within hours, a pre-contract will be signed to complete the move after the Copa Sudamericana final. $12M the fee [via @CLMerlo] https://t.co/u9bchO7KUY"

So much for "slim to none"

United has also plunked down $1.7M for first right of refusal for the next two transfer windows for Lucas Rodriguez of Estudiantes.

Tata might invade the Falkland Islands in a minute here.

TAM also doubling for next season. Now if they change the rules on players sold to foreign clubs(GAM limits), burn the allocation order, and burn the discovery rights system MLS will finally be somewhat comprehensible in their rules

Glad Toronto won MLS Cup. Would've been sad if Seattle won again on penalties.

Nagbe to Atlanta is almost a done deal.

$16M is on the table for Barco to transfer to Atlanta, too.

They somehow swung it so Villalba is no longer classified a DP, so they could conceivably keep Almiron and sign Barco.

Official. Atlanta acquires Darlington Nagbe.

They also signed young Venezuelan left back Jose Hernandez.

Naturally the subject of Ezequiel Barco was brought up amid rumours that @Atleti are now rivalling @ATLUTD:
"You have to look to make sure no one is harmed, not the player nor the club. We will see the price, I am a specialist, no one will rush me." https://t.co/O8zOMlz4sO

Son and vice-president Pablo Moyano added: "Barco is not going anywhere for less than $20 million." https://t.co/IE5aeDCJsq

VP Pablo Moyano on Barco: "There was an offer for him & for some he was sold but it's not like that. There's no chance of him going for that money ($14M). Hopefully if an offer of 20 or 30 million comes in he will be sold." https://t.co/DAmAZcJpD7

Pretty rich deal, but could just be bluster.

Based on Bocanegra's recent comments about how United plans to use Nagbe, it appears Almiron isn't going anywhere. If Almiron's your #10, you'd be playing Barco out of position on left wing in Asad's old spot (assuming Asad goes back home)?

Sounds like maybe Nagbe is going in Carmona's old spot in defensive midfield and his job will be to create space for Almiron and constantly feed Miggy the ball in transition.

They just re-signed Larentowicz, so I would assume he'll be the other defensive midfielder.

If Atlanta can't get Barco and Asad goes home, I suppose they could look internally for a new LW. They have Romario Williams, Vazquez, and Carlton who could conceivably play there.

So, Independiente kept jacking up the transfer fee ask for Atlanta to get Barco and eventually just told United they're not going to sell his rights.

Barco's evidently pissed and says he won't report back to Independiente.

Barco’s holdout appears to have worked. Independentie have re-opened transfer negotiations with Atlanta.

The talk around town here is that Barco to Atlanta is no longer a question of “if” but “when.” And this is a huge deal for MLS for arguably Argentina’s best young #10 to come to the US at 19 to play and develop.
