Default Yahoo: Lightning quietly running away with the league

Trust me, you’ll want to read this while article. The writer makes a good case for this being some rarefied air.

The Lightning are just dutifully going about the work of absolutely clobbering the NHL. Maybe people will notice in 2019. Could be a fun New Year’s resolution.

It's bizarre to me that we're mostly flying under the radar, but such is the NHL media.

This will sound strange, but while I'm loving the team looking like world beaters, I'm also worried about how crushed I'll be if they don't manage to *ahem* make it count. It took me like 2 months to get over last season, I was just livid.

I just hope that they play safe, physically, and not get too banged up and tired to survive the playoffs, which are refereed in a fashion that does not support their play.

We're not a favorite to win the cup despite being 6 points ahead of anyone else in the league according to Kypreos just now on Hockey Central. He says you "shouldn't forget about them" like we're an afterthought. Goofy.

Vegas disagrees, we are 5/1, Leafs are 13/2, Preds 8/1 and on from there.

I'd take those odds for Tampa and the Perds. Long ways to go obviously, but I haven't seen anything from Toronto that would make me believe they could take Nashville in 7 games. With Rinne in top form? Nashville grinds up Toronto. Right now that's the only team I would worry about, but I think Bolts have the defensive depth and goalie depth that Toronto doesn't have. At the moment. Still a long, long ways to go and nothing is certain yet.

I placed my $$ on October 20 (William Hill book) and got the Bolts for the Cup at 8-1. The movement in odds shows where the money is going.

Domingue being in net showed just what he can do and what this team can do when they play a 2 way game. Stamkos was right on point when he said that they need to play the way they played in front of Domingue in front of Vasy. We also learned that Domingue will allow us to give Vasy a rest thus we will have a fresh Vasy for the playoffs, which is something he was not last year.

As for our lines and pairings the depth that this team has is scary......Stanley Cup scary.

And when we went up 4-1 Thursday night I turned to the guy next to me and commented that this is starting to get boring to watch.

Mike Babcock said Thursday that chasing down the Tampa Bay Lightning, who lead the NHL with a 26-7-2 record, will be extremely difficult.

"It looks to me like Tampa's better than us," Babcock told Sportsnet's Chris Johnston. "It looks to me like they're better than everybody."

Until we're skating the cup around, I'm not going to believe the hype.
