Co grays to Marty for being elected to the Hall of Fame today. I hope you go in as a Bolt.

Default Nhl

You can read the quotes from some of his teammates on the NHL website, really nice comments.

St. Louis is an inspiration to all undrafted (and smaller) players.
Congratulations to him and his family.
There were few harder working players in the league then Marty.
I hope he goes in as Captain of the Lightning.

The first publicity had a pic of him with the C, I was fairly offended I must say. The later pics show him in an old Bolts sweater. That's better, I guess

Default Jones’ column

From reading Tom Jones’ column today it looks like he will go in as a Bolt. That would be appropriate, without us giving him a chance he was done as a hockey player. Regardless of how many of us feel about his leaving the way he did, he was the heart and soul of our team and, I think, he earned his induction into the Hall of Fame. It will be nice to see him go in as our first Hall inductee.

Wasn't Andreychuk elected last year or did he go in with a different team's jersey? I can't remember.

Even with the way he forced his way out of TB, he should go in as a Bolt. I would hope that was part of the discussion last year before they decided to retire his number and raise it to the rafters.

It's not like baseball where you have to choose a team as part of your induction. In the NHL, you just go in as an individual.

I heard an interview with Dave at the time. He said that he will always be grateful to Tampa Bay and Toronto, but that most people identify him with his time in Buffalo and that's really how he remembers his playing time too. But he never actually had to choose a team.

I think 95% of hockey fans identify Marty with Tampa. Dave is remembered in Tampa for being the captain of the cup winning team and now for his work with the team and so they celebrated him getting in. But Marty is really the Lightning's first HOF in my mind.

I agree. Marty is our first hall of famer, for better or worse.

Too bad how it ended, but his highlights are all in a Tampa Bay sweater. I'll take it.
